Beauty And The Beast at Academy of Music

Beauty and The Beast, the musical, premiered on Broadway way back in 1994. There's no reason to sugarcoat this, it was overshadowed because of the success of the Lion King. Over the years, there have been various attempts to put the story back into the mainstream theater scene. After a successful run in London's West End, and a long tour of Australia, this new version is getting a US tour. One of the shows is going to be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Friday 13th February 2026.

In other iterations of the play, the backgrounds and the style of the costumes were both rather dark. This brought a lot of weight on The Beast character. This current production is taking a completely different approach. The emphasis is more on Belle, as it should've always been. This time around, the audience is welcomed by beautifully crafted props and bright costumes that burst off the stage. When you pair that with the traditional soundtrack, you can see why both the British and Australian theater goers took a liking to this revival. Sorry for the spoilers, but the grand entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village have, provide the perfect counterpart to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that audiences were super hooked by this point in the story. There's no reason why things will be different this Friday at Academy Of Music and the entire US tour for that matter. Gaston's introduction and musical performance tend to be fan favorites. It's really Belle that the story revolves around though, and for this US Tour they've picked a great actress for the role. By the end of the event, you'll be singing and dancing as you waltz out of Academy Of Music.
