History can be enthralling when you experience it with the highly acclaimed Broadway production, "Six — The Musical." You don’t have to be a history buff to enjoy "Six," though. Its message of girl power, brought home through original music, makes watching this performance an heart-pounding occasion.
The original Broadway show production of "Six" received two Tony awards, including for Best Score. After making its debut in London and moved to Broadway, you now have the ability to see "Six — The Musical" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The touring production of "Six" will bring the epic score to Academy Of Music on Saturday 4th October 2025.
"Six" originated as a production by the Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society in 2017 in the U.K.. The excitement of those engagements created an opportunity for a professional production that traveled across the UK in 2018.
"Six" made its official premier on London’s West End in 2019. It had a successful run until the pandemic disrupted performances for most of the following year.
The production persevered to receive favorable reviews and was involved in tours around the world. It eventually moved to New York City, where it was the first new musical to appear on Broadway after the COVID pandemic.
It continues to travel across North America, Canada and the world today. An interesting twist to the development of "Six — The Musical" was that Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss used actual pop stars to model the characters. They drew inspiration from musicians like Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Adele, Celine Dion, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Alicia Keys for the character creation.

"Six" is the tale of the wives of King Henry the 8th, who was a well-known king of England in the 1500s. During his 4 decades in power, he married 6 times. His demands to annul his first marriage led to the separation of the Church of England from papal authority. Many people probably have heard of the story of Henry VIII. However, you may not have learned the story of his six wives. That’s where "Six" enters the picture.
This musical delves into the story of the six queens as they tell their difficult experiences with the king. The queens try to decide who had the worst experience in living with the king. The queens discuss divorce, rejections, adultery, and even beheadings in a way that amuses you while also touching your emotions. They even place a contemporary twist on the story by incorporating a dating app in a hilarious way.
Eventually, they realize that battling over who had the most awful time with Henry VIII is pointless. They come to realize that Henry VIII robbed them of their individuality. They are not just the six wives of a terrible king - they have their personal strengths that deserve celebrating. The ex-wives eventually help each other to write new endings to their lives. They achieve their “happily ever afters” that Henry VIII denied them by imagining what their lives would’ve been like without meeting Henry VIII.
